Raigad Killa

Raigad is a fort located in Mahad in Raigad district of Maharashtra. Raigad fort was built by Chandra Shivaji Maharaj then Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj conquered it, and in 1674, he established the capital of his kingdom of Raigad as Rai of Raipur, during which time the Marathi Empire spread across Central and Western India.

This fort is currently under the control of the Government of India but is open to the public.

      This fort built by Hiroji Indulkar is 820 meters (2,700 feet) tall and is in the Sahyadri mountain ranges from the sea level. There are 1737 steps to go to the fort. Using the Raigad Rodeway, it is possible to reach the fort at 10 minutes. After the occupation of the British in 1818, the British looted and destroyed some part of the Raigad fort.


History of fortress

After the conquest of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1656, Raje Chandradarjee More, the king of Jawli and the descendant of the Chandragupta Maurya family, was known as Rai's fort. Chhatrapati Shivaji built and expanded this fort and named it Raigad (King Castle). It became the capital of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maratha empire.

   Pakhad and Raigadwadi are located at the foothills of Raigad Fort. These two villages were considered very important during Maratha rule in Raigad. Raigad fort starts from wedge on top of the fort. During the reign of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, there were always ten thousand soldiers in Pachad village.

   After taking a mustard from Chandrarao More, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj built another fort, Linga, about two miles away from Raigad. Linga fort was used to keep prisoners.
     In 1689, Zulfiqar Khan captured Raigad and Aurangzeb named him Islamgam. In 1707, Siddi Fate Khan captured the fort and kept it till 1733. C. In 165, the fort of Raigad was currently aimed at the British East India Company's armed expedition in Sindhudurg district of the southern district of Maharashtra. In 1818, the British were given it to the British East India Company on 9 May 1818 due to the destruction of the tomb by Kalpana.

Attractive places

Maharashtra Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj constructed Raigad Fort and was the Chief Architect / Engineer Hirose Indulkar. The main palace was built using wood, which only appears on the base pillars. In the main fort, there were queen rooms, six comfort homes.In addition, the remains of three Najdekhekha tower can be seen directly in front of the Killa, out of which only two are visible, because the third part was destroyed in the bomb blast. There are also market segments in Raigad Fort. There is a kutaram lake which is known as Ganges Sea.
   The only main way of the fort is through the "Maha Darwaja" (huge door). On both sides of the door, there are two big bastions at the main entrance, which is 65-70 feet high. The height of the fort is 600 feet from this door. On the fort there is a famous "Hirkani Burj" (Hirkani Basement).
   The king's court inside the fort of Rayagada is a replica of the original throne, in which the town gate is the main gate. It was designed to be heard from the throne until the entrance to the entrance. A gateway to Dwarka named Meena Darwaja, this fort was from the private entrance of the palace, which was at the fourth position of Queen. The king and the king's angel themselves have used the palanquin door. The palanquin door is right, there is a row of three dark and deep rooms. Historians believe that they were a granary for the fort

At the cost, there is a trunk called Tinku Tok from where the accused and the prisoners were pushed down as punishment. This area has now been protected by iron fencing. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue has been erected in front of the main market Avenue.

And went to Samadhi of Shri Maharaj. Rajmata Jijabai Shahaji Bhosale's Samadhi, Chhatrapati Shivaji's mother, can appear in the original village of Pudad. Additional famous attractions of the Jijabai Samadhi Fort include the famous turret, nane door and elephant lake (elephant lake).
